 Previous Version
AutoCat 3 requires Mac OS X or Mac OS 8.6 or later with CarbonLib, which can be downloaded from the Apple Software Updates website.

If you have an older system software, you can still use AutoCat 2.9.3.

AutoCat 2.9.3 - 475K

 AutoCat Tips
Place AutoCat close to the Trash on the desktop. When you are done with a disk, just drag onto the AutoCat icon: it will be cataloged (if you made changes) and ejected.
Press the Option key while draging a disk onto AutoCat. This will force the disk to be cataloged.
If you don't press Option, the disk is cataloged only if it has been modified since it was last cataloged - but sometimes the Finder doesn't update the modification date of a disk, and AutoCat might forget to catalog this disk.

 AutoCat & AppleScript
You can use AppleScript to catalog your disks. The script below will catalog the disk called 'myDisk'.

tell application "AutoCat"
  activate
  open {alias "myDisk:"}
  quit
end tell

Catalog your disks with AutoCat

Drag a disk or a folder onto the AutoCat icon or the AutoCat window. It will be automatically cataloged and ejected.
It is suggested to put the AutoCat icon close to the trash on the desktop (Mc OS 9) or on the dock (Mac OS X).

Insert a disk while AutoCat is in the front. It will be cataloged and ejected. This is a practical way to catalog a series of disks. (pre Mac OS X only.)

Let AutoCat catalog your disk in the background
You don't have to wait until AutoCat has finished its cataloging to continue to use your Mac. AutoCat works in the background and automatically ejects your disk when it's done. AutoCat only catalogs disks not included in your catalog: if you have already cataloged a disk and didn't change its contents, AutoCat doesn't catalog it again. (You can use the Option key to force AutoCat to catalog your disk.)

Here is a Mac OS X example of a catalog of several CDs, an iDisk, and a server.

A catalog example

Navigate through your catalog from the Finder
The same as you navigate through your disk! With Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, ou can even use Spotlight to search your catalog.
You can also navigate through Open and Save dialogs from within all your applications. Actually, you can access your catalog from everywhere! You can share it and access it via a network if you want.
